Grain that goes into the bag a little damp is where most storage losses begin. Ordinary bags can lose close to 40% of the maize to weevils in six months — a sealed airtight bag loses under 3%. Dry to about 13% moisture first: shake grain with a spoon of dry salt in a bottle, and if it sticks, it's not ready. Sort out anything holed, cracked or mouldy, then seal it tight in a PICS bag, a metal silo or a well-lidded drum. Do both properly and the same harvest lasts until the price is right, instead of half of it disappearing before you get there.
