National Agricultural Growth Scheme and Agro-Pocket

A federal scheme that gives farmers growing maize, rice, cassava, sorghum, soybean or wheat subsidised seed, fertiliser and other inputs, plus advice from extension agents, so they can grow more food and cut Nigeria's food-import bill.

| Who qualifies | Registered farmers producing maize, rice, cassava, sorghum, soybean or (dry-season) wheat; a separate, smaller track supports about 500 medium-to-large farmers with 10 hectares or more as 'change agents'. |
| What you get | Certified seed (heat-tolerant wheat, drought-tolerant maize, high-yielding rice and soybean varieties), mineral fertiliser and other agro-chemicals, and advisory visits. Each registered farmer is meant to be supported twice — the scheme covering up to 50% of the cost the first time and 25% the second — after which the farmer graduates; about 20,000 farmers also receive solar-powered water pumps. By mid-2026 the scheme had registered over 647,500 farmers and delivered subsidised inputs to 622,818 of them. |
