Agricultural Finance Corporation Credit
Credit / finance · Kenya · also called AFC
A government-owned lender that gives farm loans directly and, for smallholders who have no collateral, channels smaller loans through partner SACCOs and microfinance institutions.
What to know
| Administered by | Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) |
|---|---|
| Who qualifies | Farmers, cooperative societies, registered farmer groups, private companies and others engaged in agriculture; direct crop loans require loan security (Seasonal Crop Credit needs a minimum of 5 acres of maize or wheat), while smallholders without collateral are served through a partner SACCO or microfinance institution. |
| What you get | Loans for crop production, livestock, irrigation and agribusiness — e.g. Seasonal Crop Credit at 10% interest on a reducing balance — and, for smallholders without security, loans as low as Ksh 1,000 disbursed through a partner SACCO or microfinance institution. |
| How to register | Apply at any AFC branch, through the Vuna mobile app, or via the eCitizen platform; smallholders without collateral instead borrow through a SACCO or microfinance institution already partnered with AFC. |
