Rural Financial Intermediation Programme III
Credit / finance · Ethiopia · also called RUFIP III
An IFAD-financed national programme (2019–2029) that expands rural households' access to savings, credit, micro-insurance and money transfers by strengthening the network of Rural Savings and Credit Cooperatives (RUSACCOs) and microfinance institutions that actually reach farmers.
What to know
| Who qualifies | Rural households, with a particular focus on the most vulnerable smallholder farmers, women and young people, in the areas served by participating RUSACCOs and microfinance institutions; the target group is set at 50 per cent women and 10 per cent youth. |
|---|---|
| What you get | Access to savings, credit, micro-insurance and money transfer products through RUSACCOs and microfinance institutions, plus financial literacy training and, in some areas, climate-risk insurance products for smallholder farmers. |
| How to register | A farmer does not apply to RUFIP III directly; they join or borrow through their nearest Rural Savings and Credit Cooperative or a participating microfinance institution — the programme works through a nationwide network of more than 11,000 RUSACCOs, their Unions, and 38 microfinance institutions. |
